Denver, Colorado; weed is legal, hallucinogenic mushrooms are legal, one rooster per household is legal, pitbull type dogs are illegal. All that and Colorado has a first gentleman who claims to be vegan. Throughout the country breed specific legislation has proven to be ineffective. In fact #BSL has proven to enforce the outlaw image which many dog fighters want.
Still to this day those who are investigated, prosecuted, and occasionally convicted of bloodsports are people of color. Meanwhile the dominant population fighting animals is middle to upper middle class whites.
We are in the beginning stages of creating an organization to educate the public and law enforcement about bloodsports. Investigations, prosecution and education about bloodsports and the people who participate has too little focus and needs more attention from media and law enforcement.

The cock fighting season is coming to an end in the United States. Many birds who cockers deem not fit to fight are just tossed to the roadside, literally. This rooster had been dead a few hours when I found him. He was dubbed, spurs cut to the bone, and tagged; which are signs he was bred and raised to fight. Bloodsport is a multimillion dollar entity that is rarely prosecuted for the sake of the animals. Most charges that finally go to court are based on tax fraud, gambling, drugs, or immigration.
Too many assumptions are made as to who fights animals. This prejudice often gives strength and anonymity to the fighting communities which are mostly white, middle to upper middle class.

@roostersanctuary and Dark Mountain are building a special needs facility for those who need the most care. Any day we could have nine to fifty animals that need special attention. To give them the best care we will be converting two shipping containers into a habitat that allows animals to receive the best care while still enjoying the outdoors. The containers will be moved to our new location when that time comes.
In honor of a friend who has helped me from the beginning of this project; we are dedicating one wing of the special needs unit to Angela Fowler. @726fowler235
The second half of the special needs unit will be dedicated to @emxmortem ’s companion Jackson Paw Lick.
